Day 1 – Playlist

Today’s blog topic is Playlist – Choose five songs that mean something to you and tell us why.

music notes heartsI have a lot of songs that when I hear them I say ‘That’s in my top ten” subsequently I have way more than ten songs on that list lol. Choosing just five songs for this blog post is a little hard because so many songs have meaning for me, but here goes!

Stairway To Heaven [Led Zeppelin  – OK this is a no brainer, it’s my all time favourite song ever, I want it played at my funeral, and I can listen to it over and over and never get tired of it. The seven plus minutes of music just always seems to offer something new every time I listen to it and as I move through my life the words always seem to offer a special message.

Shadowboxer [Fiona Apple] – This is my ‘go to’ broken heart song. With lyrics like

Once my lover, now my friend
What a cruel thing to pretend
What a cunning way to condescend
Once my lover, and now my friend

It’s a song that just let’s me wallow in the pain and then find some light.

Skinny Love [Bon Iver] – This song is a recent addition to this list and it all comes down to this lyric

Come on skinny love just last the year

I know in the context of the song it has nothing to do with weight loss, but as that’s the journey I’m on right now it just seems to make sense for me to want all the good things that are happening around it to last.

Don’t Stop [Fleetwood Mac] – This is my ‘pick me up’ song. Always makes me feel better when I hear it, especially since I saw them play it live. That concert changed my life. That’s a big call I know but it really did have such an impact on my life, I can’t explain it. I have this song on my running playlist and it always makes me push through the pain and keep going.

Last, but by all means, not least was a real toss between two songs from the same singer Mr Leonard Cohen. I nearly chose Hallelujah but at the last minute I went for the song I would have at my wedding if I ever get married again and that is Dance Me To The End Of Love. If you don’t know this song I highly recommend you take a few minutes to check it out, the video is so inspiring and of course the song is just so beautiful.

music is my boyfriend

So there you have it, five of my favourites for five different reasons! Enjoy!
