Fashionista Friday – Rose Gold

I’m totally loving Rose Gold at present. It has all the glamour of yellow gold, but with a kiss of pink to add something special to metal.

Copper is a trending colour for home décor at present and I predict we will see a lot of rose gold in fashion for the coming spring and summer.

It’s pretty and sparkly with a soft glow, it’s perfect for relaxed summer barbeques and glamourous evenings out.

Men and Make-Up

Paul Henry asked on his show this morning about whether we think it’s OK for men to wear make-up, and I thought it was a great topic for me to weigh in on.

I pretty much grew up wearing make-up due to my competitive dancing, and as I got older make-up helped hide my acne, which was so bad that I took the strongest acne medication available at the time.

I’ve always worn make-up and always will. Not’s a rare occurrence for me to leave the house with no make-up on, and I generally have the full works.

The power of make-up is beyond measure. There are a tonne of amazing make-up tutorials on Youtube, and at 45 I’m still amazed at how incredible the transformation of before and after can be.

So, onto the topic of men and make-up and with my lifelong love affair with make-up it will come as no surprise that I’m fundamentally in favour of men wearing make-up but it has to be in keeping with their personal style, and application ability!

To be honest, most men I know would simply benefit from a trip to a beauty therapist for a brow tidy, and eyelash tint. These two things alone can make a world of difference. As for actual make-up for men, it totally depends on the personality of the wearer. Let’s face it Colin M-J can pull off a lot more make-up than most guys, but he has a flamboyant personality and it doesn’t look fake.

If I was dating a guy who wanted to wear make-up I’d mostly be fine with it, unless he started taking more time than me to get ready and looked better than me when we went out! 😉

After all who wants to put all that work into looking cute if the guy you’re dating ends up cuter than you!

Fashionista Friday – Royal Ascot 2014

It’s Royal Ascot time again and that means tradition, pagentry, and over the top hats. Oh sure, there are also horses racing, and don’t get me wrong I love the ‘racing’ aspect of Ascot, but the fashion demands just as much attention, if not more, than the horses!

Here are some my picks from this year’s event. There are plenty more online and very hard to choose just a few.

Royal Ascot 2014

.

You’ll see that I’ve actually chosen a pant suit as my feature outfit. If you dissect all the pieces there are so many ‘wrongs’ and get together the whole outfit works, even the rather odd headwear.

Of course I had to add my favourite quirky hat and I love the moss and horse, esepcially teamed with the horse neckalce.

The asymetric hat with the negative detail is so simple and yet very effective.

The red and white outfit just cute, lots of personality without being outrageously attention seeking.

The cream dress is again an example of simple and elegant and whole ensemble just works beautifully.

The style of the black hat is my current favourite, with an angled hat and flower detailing under the brim.

Finally, it’s not Royal Ascot, with a royal, and although I’m no fan of Camilla I simply love her hat! Well her outfit really, beautifuly tailored (of course), and the hat is stylish with a bit of fun.

Fashionista Friday – Lego Meets Royalty Meets Fashion

My beautiful son is 9 on Saturday! I can barely believe it. Thank god I have living, breathing, reminder of time because honestly it goes SO fast I can barely cope.

Mr-almost-9 is having a Lego theme for this year’s celebration and we’ve made some cute decor items (blog to follow) and as it’s Ascot next week I thought I would do a pre-Ascot fashion post and what do you know Lego + Royalty + Fashion! #aboutdied or, if I was American, ‘literally died’ because they have no concept of the actual meaning of ‘literally’!

How adorbs is this?

Fashionista Friday – Hats

Go me, two blogs this week! Lol

We had a business networking event last night and my gorgeous friend Charlotte turned up looking very metropolitan in a hat. I love hats although I don’t wear them very often. I emailed her this morning to reiterate the fact that I thought she looked fabulous and her reply was “you never have a bad hat day with a hat” and  how true is that!

So here are some hats from the Fall/Winter 2014/2015 collection (Northern Hemisphere).

There’s An App For That – Covet Fashion

OK, so it’s no secret I’m a fan of fashion, but lets face it, my wardrobe is very “St Lukes” and not a lot of “Newmarket”. For one I don’t have the budget for high end designer threads, and for the most part I’m so used to wearing stuff that ‘fits’ that I haven’t been fashion conscious for myself – just others.

My Second Life wardrobe is AMAZING! In a world where EVERYTHING fits, and you can change your shape, skin tone, make up, hair, shape, and even your eye colour with just a few clicks of the mouse it’s very very easy to live a fantasy life of clothing you would never wear, or mostly could never afford to wear, in real life.

But Second Life is hard, it’s time consuming – incredibly time consuming, and well ‘who got time for dat’, so I guess I’ve been looking for a surrogate, that whilst no where near the calibre of SL, this app does lend itself to fantasy wardrobes, instant transformations, and the opportunity to own items you never could in the real world. Introducing Covet Fashion.

Thanks to Donna, I know have a new app addiction, and it’s right up my alley.

The website declares

Shop. Style. Win.

Covet Fashion gives users the freedom to shop and style with over 80 designers’ collections & build complete head-to-toe looks. Covet Fashion is the best way for brands to connect to their target audiences on mobile and tablet.

Covet Fashion is a personalized styling experience that allows you to pick pieces from the best virtual closet. I think it has the potential to change the way people discover and interact with fashion. – Rachel Zoe

Let’s face it, most of use would love a bigger wardrobe and having this virtual closet is the closest most of us are going to get to owning the designer labels on the site – given that, if you  have the $$$ you can buy directly from the game and have the item delivered right to your door. I have a feeling this game is just the beginning of our future online shopping experience. We’ll eventually be able to dial in our digits, put on an outfit and get a digital impression of what it would look like on us. Add to that the ability to mix and match what is already in your RL wardrobe and BOOM! A whole new way to online shop.

Covet gives you the opportunity to express your fashion styling with a series of Events to style your client for. Some have very flexible criteria, and others what seems like ridiculously strict criteria. Event themes range from Navy Seal to Ingenue. 1920’s photographer to CEO. Then you are judged by your fellow Coveters. In order to enter events you vote of the looks entered by other app users. Herein lies my only issue with the game. We each have our own interpretation of the theme, and whilst some of them are WTF were you thinking (and I include myself in that group on occasion), some of the looks entered are determined by the budget you have, what you have in your closet, who you can borrow from (one item her event), but a lot of it comes down to what you think the look is. That being said, the hair, skin, and make up are all FREE so why would you enter a 1920’s photographer using a 1980’s Farrah hair do? Yep, none of those looks got my vote!

So there it is, my current, There’s An App For That!

Golden Globes 2014

Golden Globes fashion always sets the tone for the fashion for the coming year, and this year is no exception.

There are always fabulous gowns, completely clangers, and then a few stunners.

This year I have to say I loved what Guiliana was wearing, the dress added a bit of ‘body’ to her and there was lovely movement, and I thought her gorgeous bob really set the dress off.

Margot Robbie,in Gucci, wore my absolute favourite dress. What a stunner!

I’ve never been a fan of dresses that don’t offer ‘support’, such as the dress Amy Adams wore, and personally I don’t think the two tones go well together.

My girl crush, Sofia Vergara, wore another stunner, seriously she would look fabulous in a sack.

Hair was an mix of both gorgeous up-do’s and casual down. I think I least liked Hayden Panettere, looks like she didn’t have time to dry it. I did love Julia Roberts’ up-do (although the pic doesn’t do it justice) and I thought Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting’s hair was very blah – too ‘everyday’ for my liking.

Jewellery was it’s usually major bling! I did notice that many of them were wearing their rings on the exterior fingers, first and little mostly. Glad to see I’m still rocking that trend.
