CD Stories | Hartleigh

Mr Scribblz is still on CD drawing duties, and picked out his own CD this time. I’m so excited to write this blog!

Mr Scribblz is the moniker the fabulous, funny, and my favourite person in the whole world, Hartleigh Cole, has chosen for his digital footprint. He’s my one and only child, has a quirky sense of humour, is smart, caring, and is the love of my life. ❤

Hartleigh has chosen the Bryan Adams CD, So Far So Good. He chose it because of the cover, which is a tyre, and it reminded him of our old RAV4, we both loved that car and had a lot of fun in it, and because of Summer of ’69, see below for that connection.

This is not our car, but is the same model. Our RAV was red.

Hartleigh has chosen to write several comments/phrases for his CD Story;

A La Boo

School of 69

Our Rav4

Merry Disc-mas

By Harts A.K.A Mr Scribblz

I’ve explained above about Mr Scribblz and the Rav4 reference.

He wrote School of 69 as a nod to the song Summer of 69, which he sang at a school concert whilst at Primary School – hence school replacing summer.

Merry Disc-mas if pretty self-explanatory when you have a parent who loves Christmas.

The last message, A La Boo, is from when he was much younger, and was learning to talk. I would say I Love You, and we would say A La Boo. It’s stuck with us and is now part of our family language, those words that only members of your family know and understand.

I’m off to see Bryan Adams at ‘the Bowl’ on the 4th of January, it shall be that much more special now. It will be the second time I’ve seen Bryan live, the first was around three decades ago at Western Springs, when I would have been rocking the double denim 😉

This specific album isn’t on spotify so I’ve linked to a Greatest Hits album
Bryan on Facebook

If the universe would like to deliver me some funds via a Lotto win, I’d be out replacing our current car before you could finish saying $30 million dollars! 😉

Advent 2015 – Day One

Hartleigh has four Advent Calendars this year, and before you think that’s a bit OTT, it may be, but there’s no Advent police running around dictating how many you can have, thankfully!

So he has the usual ‘chocolate-a-day’ one, and he has two ‘build-a-bit-each-day’ calendars – one is a Star Wars 100 piece jigsaw, and the other is a Minecraft Lego creation, his fourth and final is our traditional Activity calendar. For this, I have usually completed all the activities before the start of the month, but this year it’s a bit of a moving beast as I’m making some last minute changes depending on things that are happening.

The first day of December saw the return of our Elf On A Shelf. I had hoped to have him wired by now, but time got away from me and firstly I couldn’t find my wire so I had to buy some, then I needed a quick unpick, which my sister dropped off to me this morning. but I also need a needle to sew him back up. Went to Spotlight today, forgot to get one! So I’m going to wait until the weekend now.

Anyway, here are today’s calendars (I won’t be posting a pic of each calendar each day – the Builders will be every few days when there is something to show, and for the Activity if it’s simple I’ll just post a pic of the card, if it’s ‘something’ then I’ll include that).

Ten Things I love About You

It’s Sunday evening, and the third term of the school year starts tomorrow, so I thought I would blog about the ten things I love about my son (at ten).

  1. He can dress himself (and organise his clothes, sport gear, etc.) he’s still a bit poor on having laundry in the right location
  2. He can go to the toilet by himself, and knows I should do the same
  3. He has opinions about things, especially when he cares about the subject
  4. He has a super personality, and a great sense of humour
  5. He still loves showing affection , sometimes a bit more subtle than others
  6. He’s a great bartender – pouring and delivering beverages
  7. He’s caring and thoughtful. A little too caring at times. I predict many broken hearts.
  8. I know that if something were to happen to me, such as an accident, that he would be able to contact someone to help us
  9. Whilst still introverted, he is learning to manage situations that are unfamiliar or trying
  10. Lastly, I love that he’s my son. #teamcole

Where Have You Gone?

I’ve been back in New Plymouth for just over 9 years now – the only reason I know how many years it is is because of Hartleigh – honestly if you asked me I’d say 4-5 years at the most – the time as flown! Hart is going to be NINE on Saturday. the last of the single digits for my June 2005 baby.

I thought it might be a good time to do a bit of a review of the past nine years.

I moved home (to Taranaki)

I had a baby

I got divorced

I bought a house

I put on weight (a lot as it turns out)

I sold the house (and lost more money than I can deal)

I lost the weight

I fell in love

I fell out of love

I got a tattoo (after 19 years of deliberation!)

I found some fantastic new friends

I’ve said goodbye to some who should still be here

I fell in love again

I resigned myself to the fact that insomnia is now my friend

I still fail at most parts of my life

I have succeeded in places I never thought I would

I know I’m not the person I want to be but I’m going to keep trying to get there because it’s the least I can do for Hart. Protect him from making my mistakes. If only!

Advent Calendar 2012 | Day 16

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Day 16 already! Today the card was playing board games, something I traditionally associate with holidays, especially summer at the beach. Hart decided he wanted to play cards which was fine by me. We played ‘Go Fish’ with the Ben 10 pack, a little tricky when I don’t know all of the characters lol. Really need to play games more often! Adding that to the resolutions for 2013.
